How to clean a carpet

How to clean carpet

We all love our carpets, don't we? They're soft and cuddly underfoot. But they take abuse from shoes or spills to pets- so often it's necessary for them a deeper clean than what you might give every 6 months at most! Frequent vacuuming helps extend the life of any carpet as well as wall-topping fabrics like rugs too :)

Vacuum your carpet at least once per week to keep it looking its best. If you have kids or pets in the house, vacuum more often than not! spills should be taken care of quickly so they don't stain too much - consider using a professional cleaner once or twice a year to give your carpets a deep clean.

A few tips for your routine cleaning: A few tips for your routine cleaning:

For the most thorough vacuum job, take the time to move furniture and any other items from the carpet.

Set the vacuum to the proper height for your type of carpet to get the strongest suction.

Vacuum slowly and go over high-traffic areas several times for the best results. Use a lint roller for quick clean-up of crumbs.

Run a rubber-edged squeegee over the carpet to collect pet hair.

Freshen and brighten carpet with a liberal sprinkling of baking soda every month. Let it sit for an hour or more to absorb oily stains and odors and then vacuum it away.

Stain Removal

The sooner you get that spill cleaned up, the better. For liquid stains on carpets or other fabrics like curtains and bedding; immediately blot with a white cloth before applying friction to force out as much of it from your fabric. Never use an coloured cloth as the colour can run into the carpet and stain the carpet, always use a white cloth.
